HARP 2.0 buzz

Coming to a lender near you, the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) is new and improved.

The original HARP program was designed to allow people who currently have a mortgage that is held by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to refinance to a lower interest rate even if they have little to no equity in their home.

The program was limited, however, in that it required a homeowner owe no more than 25% more than the home’s current value on the mortgage. This rule prevented many borrowers who were severely underwater from taking advantage of the lower rate environment. With HARP 2.0, this rule has been removed providing no equity limitation.

This comes as welcome news for homeowners who have felt stuck in a property with no equity at a high rate of interest. Before, the only option was to stick it out or walk away from the property. HARP 2.0 offers these homeowners some relief and may help keep some short sales and REOs off the books, which erode values in our neighborhoods.

Professional History
After graduating college, I went into sales for a large supplier to the automotive industry and after that moved into the telecommunications field as a project manager. In 2000, I started my career in real estate as a buyers agent for a top team within Coldwell Banker Schweitzer. I was a buyers agent for a few years before I ventured out on my own to eventually start the Jason Matt Team, now partnering with Chris Knight as the “Knight/Matt Team” for Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel.

Business Philosophy

Personal History

I grew up in Allen Park and have lived in Michigan my entire life. I have been married 14 years to my wife, Jaime, and reside in the Township of Canton with my two sons, Landen and Beckham.

Last Book Read

“Getting Back to Even,” by Jim Cramer.  I have a love of investing and usually try to read as many books as I can on the subject as well as what has become a great “second income” for me…options trading.

Last Movie Seen

“Friends with Benefits”… I try to go on a “date night” with my wife Jaime every Friday.

Hobbies

Boating, boating and more boating…I have a 34’ SeaRay Sundancer that we keep at MacRay Harbor on Anchor Bay (Lake Saint Clair). I also love to go to see live concerts. If you are on Facebook, you will notice as I am “checking in” at The Palace or DTE on a weekly basis!
